In 2004, Springer-Verlag Heidelberg published C.P.Khare抯 "Encyclopedia of Indian Medicinal Plants" which contained 400 monographs comprising classical as well as contemporary research findings.

"Indian Medicinal Plants. An Illustrated Dictionary" is the second major one-volume reference work by C.P.Khare which has been dedicated to the distinguished scientist, Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, who did pioneering work by reviving the glory of medicinal and aromatic plants in Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Scientific monographs of "The Wealth of India" series (17 volumes) have been capsulised in the dictionary and corroborated with the judicious findings of German Commission E, European Cooperative on Phytotherapy (ESCOP) and WHO. Therapeutic leads, active indications and contraindications are salient features of the core text. These are based on herbal pharmacopoeias, compendiums and latest editions of standard reference works like "PDR for Herbal Medicines," "(Laurance) Review of Natural Products", "Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database". The Dictionary is the first updated source of Ayurvedic, Unani and Siddha synonyms of their botanical counterparts, after a gap of more than 30 years. Professor Laskaris is to be commended for producing this [book]. It is a superb reference work of invaluable practical use to any clinician involved in the oral cavity. It suits well a pan professional application at whatever stage of undergraduate and postgraduate career and deserves well to be a standard text for many clinical situations. I would not hestitate to unreservedly recommend it as certainly a best buy for the practice library as dental professionals more and more become concerned and involved with an holistic approach to patient care.

"Henry's," as it's generally known, is an excellent all around text for clinical pathology and an ideal starting point particularly at the resident level. But its greatest strength is also its greatest weakness -- it covers essentially every component of clinical pathology, but by nature this means not every last detail can be included. Still, it does a very admirable job of consolidating so much information. As a resident, if you can buy only one CP book then I heartily recommend starting with Henry's; it contains more board level material on more CP specialties than I've found anywhere. It can also come in handy for attending pathologists, particularly those finding themselves covering a lab they may not be as familiar with.
